被字句 - Passive sentences in Chinese

I recently learned about the proper use of 被 (bèi) for passive-voice sentences and I think grammar is super neat!

Subj. + 被 (+ Doer) + Verb + 了

The way I saw it that finally made everything click was:

Active sentence: 女孩吃了蘋果。The girl ate the apple.
Passive sentence: 蘋果被（女孩）吃了。The apple was eaten (by the girl).

With this type of passive sentence, you can omit the "doer" altogether and emphasise what is most important:

花瓶被破了。The vase was broken. (by who? doesn't matter, what matters is that it's broken)
他的車被偷了。His car got stolen. (again, what matters is the result)

Or you can put the emphasis on the receiver of the action:

你被他打了嗎？Did you get hit by him? (as opposed to something more direct like 他打了你嗎？Did he hit you? With the use of 被, the sentence is calling into question whether "you" got hit or not, not whether "he hit" you or not)
對不起，那杯茶被我喝完了。Sorry, that cup of tea was finished by me. (maybe someone was looking for their cup of tea, and now I have to fess up)
