Sup I'm eli (pronounced "eh-lee" bc I'm hispanic). I haven't been on DW for that long but I really like this place so I think I'll stick around.

I post mostly random thoughts I have and fandom stuff relating to novels, video games, fanfics, etc. The bulk of what I've been putting here lately is updates on writing and reviews of things I read. I've also been trying to upload my fics to the journal but it's a long process and I get distracted easily. In addition, I'm sorta learning Chinese for funsies and translating a few things so I'll occasionally post things about that. I do try to keep everything neatly sorted into categories in the tags for anyone interested in looking around.

También hablo español, pero lo hablo con trabajo jaja (soy analfabeto alv)

I'm super chill about adding people/giving permissions, though I don't actually have that many locked posts that I'm not making public at some point. I also mostly lurk like a crocodile, just out of sight, but I'm always there watching, waiting...

I forgor to do wrap-ups for the last few months of the year so anyway here's my yearly total:

Words Written:
117,017

Fics:
28

Completely dropped the ball on my translation project so I'm not even gonna bother counting lol...

Anyway I'm super stoked!!!! Hells yells!!! Wrote less than last year but honestly hitting 100k for the second year in a row is such a wonderful thing I'm not even mad.

Now for some breakdowns!

Looking at my AO3 stats I wrote for 17 different fandoms this year, with most of my words being for 蟲師 | Mushishi (5 fics for a total of 23,178 words), followed by the Time For Chaos podcast (also 5 fics for a total of 11,943 words).

My longest fic (not counting the ongoing ORV one i started in 2023) was Return, for Musishi, running at 13,543 words, and my shortest were two 100 word drabbles for Get in The Trunk and All Saints Street.

The most viewed fic (again not counting the ORV one because that beast is out of control) is a Merthur fic I wrote for a fest that is now sitting at almost 4.5k views (holy shit) and ⁓200 kudos. The least viewed fic is the drabble I wrote for Get in The Trunk, now sitting at 5 views and 1 kudo which, honestly, is four more views than I thought it was going to get (there is one, i repeat 1, other person writing fics for this fandom and I thought they might see it tbf, which they did xd). The second least viewed fic is a Time For Chaos one sitting tied at 5 views but with 2 whole kudos, which, considering I'm the only person writing for this fandom, is actually a lot because my expectations were literally zero xd.

Anyway here's to 100k more words on 2025!!! Hopefully this year I do some [community profile] inkingitout check ins because I signed up again...

I've had such severe Baldur's Gate 3 brainrot I've legitimately not been able to do much of anything in my downtime other than play the stupid game since I got it in *checks notes* November?! Like I had been completely avoiding hearing or seeing anything about it because I didn't want to be sad that I couldn't play it on my shitty laptop but then I pulled the plug and upgraded my laptop and THE FIRST THING I DID was get BG3 and I regret nothing.

playthrough ramblings )

My only concern is that there are so many things I want to do in this game that I can't do all at the same time (like helloo, I want to romance everyone and play every class and doom myself and the world and also save everyone and be a hero???) that I'm going to have to replay it so much and the brainrot is never going to end. My most replayed game (I say re-played and not played because I have an ungodly number of hours on games that don't end lol) is FE3H and I have a little over 200 hours on it, in contrast I almost have 200 hours on BG3 and I haven't even finished one playthrough. Is this game going to have a chokehold on my mind until the end of time? It's looking like yes.

I've been wanting to play Dredge and finish Disco Elysium for the longest time but I can't because every time I open my laptop I find myself clicking on BG3 like it's muscle memory (which it might as well be at this point) and just spending my entire afternoon hearing "i have a lot on my mind, and well... in it" over and over again and I love it T-T. I do need to tone it down a bit tho, I haven't written anything since my Yuletide pieces and even that was hard to do because I kept putting it off to play BG3 instead lmao, but I miss writing ;-;
Why can't there be more hours in a day ;-;
Why do I need to sleep and eat an do other stuff ;-;

Anyway I'm signing off now gonna go play BG3

I'm kinda obsessed with WOE.BEGONE rn and the music is such a mood.

Who knew a silly little ARG podcast would have such a grip on me lmao. I'm only on ep 60-something and it's already such a clusterfuck (/endearing) that I literally cannot even begin to fathom what's going to happen in the 100+ eps I have yet to catch up on. I need more Mike and Michael adventures pls.

Also I've been thinking of doing like a monthly recap of the pods I listen to but honestly it's probably not feasible. maybe weekly? I'll think on it.

Hey there, thanks so much for making something, I'm sure I'll love whatever you come up with!

I'm down to receive fic of any rating from Gen to Explicit (whether in the porn or the violence/gore category), and shippy or non-shippy, so just go where the story takes you. The Likes are really more suggestions than what I explicitly want in a fic, so feel free to take inspiration or completely ignore the list as you like. As for DNWs, if it's not on the list, assume I'm cool with it!

Find me as [archiveofourown.org profile] timegoesby on AO3, I'm always open to treats (* ̄3 ̄)╭

Some General Likes:Angst | Bickering/Banter | Casefic | Canon-Divergent AUs (fix-it, make it worse, what-if, role swap, etc.) | Character Studies | Complicated Relationships | Darkfic | Enemies/Rivals to Lovers | Fluff | Found Family | Friends to Lovers | Good/Bad/Open Endings | Hurt/Comfort | Hurt No Comfort | Misfits Coming Together | Lovers to Rivals | Missing Scenes | Mystery | Pining | Power Dynamics | Slice of Life | Worldbuilding | Whump

Some Smutty Likes:ABO | Age Gap | Aphrodisiacs | BDSM | Begging | Body Worship | Consensual Non-Consent | Dub/Noncon | First Times | Forced Orgasms | Foreplay | Fuck or Die | Oral | Overstimulation | Power Imbalance/Power Plays | Praise | Rough Sex | Switching | Size Difference | Teasing | Tentacles & other Monsterfucking Fun | There Was Only One Bed & Related Forced-Closeness Tropes | Threesomes (or more)

DNWs:Non-Canon Permadeath of Requested Characters1 | Mundane/Non-Supernatural AUs2 | Reader-Insert | Focus on Unrequested Identity Headcanons
For smut: Age Play | Daddy/Mommy Kink | Infantilisation | Piss/Scat/Vomit (in a sexual context) | Pregnancy/M-preg (breeding kink is fine, just no actual pregnancy) | Underage (under 16) | Vore/Cannibalism

1 - Temporary death/fakeout deaths/threat of death, etc. are fine, as is death of other characters that are not the requested ones, I just want the requested characters to be alive by the end of the fic :)
2 - What I like about these canons are the interesting supernatural settings, so I'd prefer something set in the worlds and time periods of the source. That being said, for my Mignon request I'd be fine with any sort of setting change AU as long as Oh Youngone is still a vampire ;)

Opt-Ins & Mini Challenges:Unconventional Fic Formats (epistolary, CYOA, in-world documents, etc.) | 1st or 2nd POV stories (from canon characters' POV, no reader-insert) | Crossovers (For Ghost Wax & Agent Stoker requests)

Mini Challenges:
Yuleporn
Crueltide
Interactive Fiction
Two For One - Crossovers

Find more detail about fandom-specific likes and prompts below, but feel free to go your own way with whatever you choose to make.

Time For Chaos (Podcast)🔗 Promo Post

Characters
Any in the tagset - Carter Tillinghast, Fairuz Gibran, Margarete "Margot" Sauer, Vaughn Villiers.
Desmond Mahoney is not in the tagset (for lack of space), but his addition is always welcome.

In General
I'm so starved for content I'd literally take anything: casefic, shipfic, canon divergence, character studies, literally whatever.
I'm most interested in missing moments or character backstory speculation -- fill in the gaps in the story! Theorise on the conspiracy! I've neither played nor read the Masks of Nyarlathotep adventure so I welcome any and all sorts guesses as to what is really going on. I'm also a big fan of the Cthulhu Mythos so if you want to write some sort of case fic involving a lovecrafitan investigation I am all for it.
I'd also just take the characters hanging out in between adventures and having a fun (or a not so fun) time together, because I love them and anything they do.

Some Ideas
Again, this is just my brainrot idea dump, feel free to do whatever as I am aware I wrote a lot lol.
  • Margot: For her past, how did she come to join the Order in the first place? What drove her to it? Could Gunther have had something to do with it behind the scenes? How did she come to have that relationship with Gunther? What was it like?
For more present things, what was her life like in the years between Peru and New York? What kinds of things did she get up to in order to move through the ranks in the Order after proving herself with the golden mask? How has her art/reputation as an artist evolved?

  • Vaughn: For his past, anything involving Oberon is fair game, but I'm especially interested in the tragic end of that relationship. Were there any things that Vaughn left unsaid? Anything he wishes he might have done differently? Additionally, Oberon's poem to Vaughn mentions Carcosa, does that mean he knew about the "mythos" before Vaughn did, and did he perhaps try to tell Vaughn about it? omg what if Oberon is in Carcosa right now and the delusions Vaughn has been having are actually him glimpsing Oberon there?
Otherwise I'm super interested in explorations of Vaughn's faith, how he went from his Anglican upbringing to losing his faith in the trenches to becoming a staunch Catholic due to glimpsing mind-shattering horrors.

  • Fairuz: I'm interested in her pursuit of knowledge. How did she first get started? How did she come to join the Order independent of her father? Does she have any goals in joining aside from finding out what happened to her mother? Otherwise, her relationship with her father. When/how did it become so strained? He clearly cares about her, and yet he's keeping so many thing from her, how long has she suspected that her father may be lying about some very important things?

  • Carter: I feel like this funny, debonair conman actually has some sort of incredibly tragic backstory, I mean, he's in debt with the Irish(?) mob and scams old ladies for a living before he gets with the squad, that's gotta have come from somewhere, right? We see him grow once he makes friends, but I'm interested in the kind of person he was before he ever got kicked in the face by that horse. Has he always been a conman? Did he ever have an honest job? What was his life with his latest late wife like? Were there parts of it he enjoyed?
Otherwise anything involving him trying to write and publish that (in)famous book of his adventures or just him talking himself into (and perhaps even out of) any sort of comical problem that might befall a slightly clueless American in a foreign country like Peru (or even England, lmao) after the bulk of his horrible adventures are over.
As for ships or pair interactions:
  • Carter and Margot: love them and ship them so hard, but even as friends they are fantastic. Anything that involves more of that top tier banter, whether it's them dealing with more spooky mysteries, some juicy angst at the thought that the other may be dead, or just their hilarious hijinks.

  • Fairuz and Vaughn: I don't ship them romantically, but I love their partnership and can see them being in what we would consider a queerplatonic relationship nowadays. I just want to see them working together, perhaps to unravel the dark secrets that surround them and exchanging mad theories, or spending some time together healing at Eagle's Grange.

  • Margot and Fairuz: I love their interactions when they're on screen together, especially in the second season when their relationship grows increasingly complicated due to the Order's involvement. How does Margot feel with being tasked to essentially spy on her friend for the Order? How does Fairuz deal with he thought that another person she holds dear may be keeping important secrets from her? I also think they'd make an interesting ship, something about the way they band together as two capable women against the 20th century world makes me feel like they'd find comfort in one another, especially after all the shit they've been through.

  • Carter and Vaughn: That scene on season two of Carter softly kissing Vaughn's forehead and putting his picture in the locket he always keeps with him lives in my head rent free. They make great friends, Carter often being the straight man to some of Vaughn's more ideologically esoteric ramblings, and I think they'd make for an interesting ship as well -- there's just something about Carter always being the poor victim to Vaughn's homicidal bouts of madness (under the pyramid, at the basement of the Juju house, inside the house of the lizard man...) that just makes their whole dynamic kind of tragically ironic. What happens after their work is done in England? Does Carter go to visit Vaughn at Eagle's Grange?

  • On Desmond: Being the newest guy, he's the one we know least about, so there's not that much material to go off for backstory speculation (though you're welcome to attempt it). However, I would welcome his addition in any story. What would a meeting between Vaughn and Desmond look like? What happens if the Mystery Squad asks him out for one last job before they leave England?

Ghost Wax (Podcast)🔗 Promo Post

Characters
Must include - Owen Voncid.
Luca and Pip are always welcome additions, but not necessary to the request (for matching purposes, my nemesis). Also Worldbuilding ^^b.

In General
I just want case fic! More spooky mysteries! Voncid doing his reclaimer thing and talking to dead people! Also, while I would love a fic that included either Luca and/or Pip, I'd also love a fic taking place before Voncid even met them. How did he handle the reclamations before? Have his methods changed since? Has he truly gone soft?
I love the horror elements of the podcast, the whole having to piece together a mystery from the mouth of a dead person angle, and the whole use of magic for good and evil. Also the bees <3
Since the creators have said that the Ghost Wax universe operates on an "anything goes" policy, feel free to get creative!

Some Ideas
  • Afaik the current HQ of the gang is based in the United States, so what if a (mythical/magical) creature from another country finds its way in Voncid's territory and starts wreaking havoc? How did it get there? How will Voncid deal with it?

  • What if Voncid gets caught in some sort of magical trap like a maze/time loop/illusion? How does he figure it out? How does he get out? Does anyone else notice, and if so, do they help?

  • A good old horrific "something supernatural killed this person and we gotta figure out what it is" story, you can't go wrong with a classic. If you want, take a peep at my Summer of Horror dear creator letter to see what I wrote for Ghost Wax and some horror tropes I like for more ideas ;)

  • I'd also welcome crossovers with other nominated supernatural podcasts. I'm familiar with Archive 81, Agent Stoker (see below haha), The Black Tapes, Kane and Feels, The Silt Verses, and World Gone Wrong, so consider them all fair game for fun crossover purposes :) I'm also a fan of anything Cthulhu Mythos, which I know is also in the tagset, so use it if you want as well, like -- what if Jinx knew some of the cats of Ulthar? ;)

Agent Stoker (Audio Drama)🔗 Promo Post

Characters
Must include - Agent Stoker.
Agent Caliban and EnGAGE are always welcome additions, but not necessary to the request (for matching purposes, alas). Also Worldbuilding ^^b.

In General
I'd honestly be thrilled with anything. A deep character study of Agent Stoker and his traumas? Hell yeah. A fun adventure romp as Agent Stoker and Agent Caliban solve another apocalyptic mystery? Bring it on. Agent Stoker trying (and failing?) to stop EnGAGE from killing yet another person that threatens its plans? Sounds fun. Some juicy canon-divergence? Finding fluffy slice-of-life in the midst of the end of the world? As long as Agent Stoker is there doing his thing, perhaps accompanied by one or both of his not partners (or any of the people he's met along the way), I'd be glad to receive it!

Some Ideas:
  • An early case from before Agent Caliban's death, showing Agent Stoker gaining experience and perhaps grappling with what he's learning.

  • EnGAGE trying, once again, to become Agent Stoker's partner. Results of the attempt completely up to you.

  • What if Agent Stoker had been the one that died* when EnGAGE first attacked, and also came back to continue helping Agent Caliban? How would that series of events have occurred?
*I know one of my DNWs is permanent requested character death but it's okay if he comes back as a ghost dw.

  • Agent Stoker tries helping someone, but fails. How does he deal with it? Does it hit him as hard as the first time? Is that a good or bad thing?

  • I'd also welcome crossovers with other nominated supernatural podcasts. I'm familiar with Archive 81, Ghost Wax (see above haha), The Black Tapes, Kane and Feels, The Silt Verses, and World Gone Wrong, so consider them all fair game for fun crossover purposes :)

민용 | Mignon (Cartoon)🔗 Promo Post

Characters
Must include - Mignon, Oh Youngone.

In General
I would love shipfic of any sort, smut is welcome too! Anything that takes a look at Mignon's life after he turns into a vampire, how he deals with the changes, and how his relationship with Oh Youngone continues to develop.
Some worldbuilding would be more than welcome. Vampire society is clearly organised in some sort of underground way, so feel free to build on that however you deem interesting. How does Mignon learn to navigate it? What does Oh Youngone do to ease him into into it (if anything at all)?
Also, as I mentioned in the caveat to my DNWs, I'd welcome any sort of setting change fic as long as Oh Youngone is still a vampire! Wanna write the same story beats but they're now in a medeival-inspired fantasy kingdom? Go for it! College AU where Mignon is the student with the troubled home life and debt while Oh Youngone the sickly guy who keeps missing class because he's secretly a vampire? Hell yeah. Play with it, do whatever!

Some Ideas
  • How does Mignon adapt to his new life as a vampire? Does it change his relationship with Oh Youngone? Who has the hardest time with the changes?

  • Roleswap AU where Mignon is the vampire boxer trying to win over the reticent, cool doctor who is investigating why his supply of blood bags is constantly going missing.

  • What is their home life like after all the chaos? What kind of moments of domesticity do they value? What is their new normal like?

  • Vampire bloodplay and biting stuff. Super into that. Lean into it as much as you like.

  • What if someone is hunting them down? Does it have anything to do with Mignon's or Oh Youngone's past life? Can they deal with it on their own or do they need the help of other vampires?

  • Canon divergence where Mignon avoided getting the shit beat out of him and so Oh Youngone never bit him. What would be different? Would they still end up together?

  • Canonically vampires are very long-lived. How does this affect their relationship? Do they lean even harder on each other, or do they struggle on their own? How do they view the changing world, or the possibility of one day living in a world they won't recognise (especially Mignon, since it seems Oh Youngone is used to it)? What will their life look like in 20, 50, 100 years?

  • Anything with Oh Youngone being protective over Mignon and Mignon being a completely lovestruck puppy.
elidelio: (hey listen)
Another check in that is two months in one because I forgot the last one lol.

Words Written:
26,790
Words Translated:

The combined goal for to months is 15k and I more than met it, yay!

I finished my [community profile] intoabar piece, and it was a lot of fun! I already started brainstorming part three for the series lmao, I'm also thinking about re-reading the lingqi manhua bc I am really fuzzy on canon, but since it's a crossover I can also toss canon out of the window methinks, so...

I wrote an almost 11k episode-style fic for the [personal profile] summerofhorrorexchange, for Mononoke of all things! It's been years since I watched it but I revisited it just for that piece and it was a lot of fun hahaha. Is the movie out yet? I might watch it and see if I feel like writing more on this fandom, the Medicine Seller is a pretty interesting character to write about.

Wrote 3 mushishi fics these past months, two for the [tumblr.com profile] mushishiweek challenge (spoiler alert I did not do the smart thing and pre-write something for every day so I only managed to do two ugh) and one for a pinchhit. The pinchhit one was my first Adashino/Ginko work and, tbh, it was super fun! I like Mushishi for the gen and the monster of the week possibilities so I never really explored the slash but I might do more because I had a grand old time.

Also I finished that Time For Chaos Carter/Margot banter piece I started working on after the first fic I did for the fandom for the bethefirst challenge! I love them lots and I'm gonna keep on writing for this fandom of 1 (I know there's more of us on reddit but i'm scared to bring up fanfiction there LMAO). I've already started brainstorming a Vaughn&Fairuz work during the time of Vaughn's recovery at Eagle's Grange and I'm so. pumped.

Lastly, I have decided that August will be the month I look through my WIPs and try to finish as many as I can so wish me luck lol

Oh and, uh translations... yeah. Oops. Ugh.
elidelio: (moonlight)
*Insert gif of spaghetti-haired boy singing about May or whatever*

Words Written:
8,377

Once again the way I decided to count this was by the completed fics I post on AO3 so I don't have to deal with changing wordcounts, which means that it seems like there was not a lot of output for this month but behind the scenes... I have like four WIPs, all of which are over 4k words long... so yeah... Anyway, I completed the monthly goal of 7.5k words on the surface so I'm fine.

What I completed:
1) A Link Click fic in spanish for the [community profile] lyricaltitles  community! As per the challenge, it's gonna be a series of 3, one for each song in the album. I've already started working on the second and I'm very excited, but I got distracted so I didn't manage to post it in may lol.
2) A Dimitri/Dedue fic for the Rare Kink Buffet Prompt Fest. It was quite fun to work on as the request was basically in-line with my own HC for the relationship so obviously I wrote 6k words for what was supposed to be a short and simple smut oneshot. I mean it's still a smut oneshot, but it's on the medium side, with an extended, overly gratuitous undressing+bathing scene.

What I worked on:
Started and abandoned a Dark Fall fic for dick-or-treat, mostly because I managed to write myself into a corner where the characters just wouldn't do what I wanted them to do and I had to take a break or go mad. It was basically smut so I'm not too torn about it, but I still maintain my desire to write more Dark Fall fic and might revisit it in the future. Especially to fill up my Scalding Hot Bingo card that has simply lain forgotten ever since I got it oops.
I started writing a Yanqing/Jing Yuan fic for the Rare Kink Buffet Prompt Fest that was also supposed to be short smut but then for some reason I got really into the set up and it ballooned to 5k words of Yanqing's pining and then I got stuck on a sword fight and long story short I'm still working on it but obviously now it's its own thing and it's probably gonna be a two, maybe a three parter.
Started working on my [community profile] intoabar fic and it's going great, definitely going a little longer than I anticipated but I'm not mad I'm having fun! It's a Link Click/Spiritpact crossover, continuing on the story from the intoabar fic I did last year. Fingers crossed it doesn't take me another year to add to this series because it's been such a blast hahaha
Second fic for the lyricaltitles comm, the first two are Lu Guang POV and the last one is going to be Cheng Xiaoshi. The first is season 1, and the others will be post season 2. I have a vague plan in my head which is heavily influenced by the songs that go with each fic, but as always things change beyond my control once I star actually writing so I'm just along for the ride.

As for translations... I've fallen off again I'm so sorry. My head is full of bees and they all clamour for my attention :V
elidelio: (gold)
Hey, thanks so much for making something, I'm sure I'll love whatever you come up with. I'm very easy to please and I don't really have many DNWs aside from those explicitly listed, so if it's not on the list assume I'm cool with it and feel free to get creative! I'm also down to receive fic of any rating from Gen to Explicit, shippy or non-shippy, so just go where the story takes you :)

Find me as [archiveofourown.org profile] timegoesby on AO3, I'm always open to treats (* ̄3 ̄)╭

Some Horror Likes:Eldritch Horrors | Gore | Isolation | Existential Dread | Violence | DD;DNE | Supernatural Creatures | Unreliable Narrator | Body Horror | Delusions/Insanity | Religious Zealotry/Cults | Nature as Indifferent/Unforgiving | Magical Realism | Liminal Spaces

General DNWs: 1st or 2nd person POVs (unless it's epistolary) | Out-of-universe/Mundane AUs (unless stated otherwise)

Smut-related DNWs: Daddy/Mommy Kink | Infantilisation | Piss/Scat/Vomit | Pregnancy | Underage (under 16)

Ghost Wax
Luca Eso & Owen Voncid, Luca Eso & Phillipa "Pip" James
Subgenres: Body Horror, Comedic Horror, Cosmic Horror, Folk Horror, Monster Horror, Paranormal Horror, Supernatural Horror

I usually like my horror played straight but this fandom is great for comedic horror too! I'm mainly after casefic featuring either (or both) of the two lovely pairs mentioned above, though a fic exploring their relationship dynamics while dealing with the horrible things that usually happen at their jobs is cool too! Since the creators have openly stated that the Ghost Wax universe is one where "everything is real", feel free to go wild with the kinds of horror/entities/situations they come across, the spookier the better haha. I would prefer something taking place pre-season 1 finale but if you want to try to tackle the aftermath of that be my guest!

Malevolent
John & Arthur Lester
Subgenres: Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Folk Horror, Gothic Horror, Medical Horror, Monster Horror, Paranormal Horror, Psychological Horror, Religious Horror, Supernatural Horror, Survival Horror, Violent Horror

I would be thrilled with either shipfic or genfic for these two :)
I'm a big fan of the Cthulhu mythos so any inclusion of creatures from it, or original inventions following the spirit of the classic eldritch monstrosities, would be fun! Otherwise putting the two in a situation where their relationship is tested (again) would be great. I prefer the dynamic of John+Arthur in the same body and the usual difficulties that arise from it, but if John getting his own body is part of the horror of the situation that is more than welcome!

The Magnus Archives
Martin Blackwood & Jonathan "Jon" Sims | The Archivist
Subgenres: Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Dark Fantasy, Folk Horror, Gothic Horror, Medical Horror, Monster Horror, Paranormal Horror, Psychological Horror, Religious Horror, Supernatural Horror, Survival Horror, Violent Horror

I would be thrilled with either shipfic or genfic for these two :)
I'm mainly looking for a casefic in the spirit an early episode, perhaps with Martin and Jon investigating one of their latest statements. I'd also be open to something set during the last season with the horrors of the ruined world, especially if it involves Jon using his beholding powers to horrific effects.

Mushishi
Solo: Ginko, Solo: Mushi Characters, Ginko & Mushi Characters
Subgenres: Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Folk Horror, Medical Horror, Monster Horror, Paranormal Horror, Psychological Horror, Supernatural Horror, Survival Horror, Violent Horror

There is so much potential for horror with Mushi characters, feel free to go wild! My favourite type for this is the kind of horror that comes from knowing nature is strange, cold and unforgiving and will do things that we as humans may consider horrific but to a Mushi may just be as innate to it as breathing is to us, like the mushi that live inside pillows and literally make a person's dreams come true, both good and bad, or the one that traps its victims in a perpetual time loop. Ginko is usually an observer to these kinds of occurrences, but it would also be interesting to see what he would do if the Bad Things were happening to him and how he would overcome them (or even if he would).

SAYER
Solo: Any (SAYER) Solo: Worldbuilding (SAYER)
Subgenres: Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Institutional Horror, Killer Horror, Medical Horror, Psychological Horror, Science Fiction Horror, Survival Horror, Violent Horror

Hell yeah evil Artifical Intelligence baby! This fandom is perfect for some scifi/medical/psychological horror shenanigans, especially given how willing SAYER is to literally use humans to achieve its goals. Also a fan of FUTURE's childish torture games and OCEAN's ruthless ambition and marked lack of care for the individual humans in its charge. Any sort of story set in this universe would be a delight!

Cthulhu Mythos
Solo: Any (Cthulu Mythos) Solo: Worldbuilding (Cthulu Mythos)
Subgenres: Body Horror, Cosmic Horror, Folk Horror, Gothic Horror, Monster Horror, Psychological Horror, Religious Horror, Supernatural Horror

Big fan of the mythos and its monsters, feel free to use one of the well-known ones or even make one up! Also feel free to take known characters from Lovecraft's (or related) works, make your own Original Character to subject to the horrors, or take your favourite fandom and just turn this into a Classic Cthulhu AU. I prefer the Classic Cthulhu setting (the 1920s time period specifically, New England region optional) but I'd also be happy with different time periods as long as the setting sticks to the theme of Normal People against Unknowable Outside Horrors.

  • Retornados: expedición a marte gone wrong OAO

Can't believe it's already... *checks notes* May? Wtf. Where did the last three months go? Anyway.

Welp, I definitely took a translating haitus for a while there. In my defence, the one chapter I did was super long and every time I went to chip away at it I could feel my braincells fleeing at the mere thought of having to remember all the imperial titles I came up with for this. At least this arc is one chapter closer to completion, and finally the ML is going to stop playing around. Phew.

Onto the fun bit, writing!

Since I set the 90k goal for the year, the goal for 3 months should have been 22,500 words, which I definitely did!

I finished my fic for the [community profile] smallfandombang with a whopping 13k words! It was so fun to work on, probably one of my favourite fics of the year haha. It ended up taking me in a completely different direction than what I first envisioned when thinking about the Mushishi Modern Era AU, but honestly I couldn't be happier with how it turned out, and the podfic is gorgeous to boot! Now that [tumblr.com profile] mushishiweek is coming up I'm wondering whether or not to do more works in that canon... I'll wait until the prompts come out to decide, this year I definitely want to post for more days than last year so hopefully I can get my shit together enough to pre-write some of that.

What else... Oh, I finally took the plunge and snatched a pinch-hit! It was for the [tumblr.com profile] merthurglompfest, a fest I was thinking about signing up for but at the time of signups I was busy so I sort of sighed and let it go, but then I saw the pinch hits go up and I took a peek and one of them immediately grabbed be, so I said what the hell, this is my chance! It was actually super fun to work on and reminded me of why I love Merlin so much haha, def wanna write more merlin stuff in the future. Also, having to find a beta for this fic (as per the fest rules, I'm usually a "no beta we die like [humorous comparison]" kind of guy) got me in contact with a wonderful writer who introduced me to the show Lewis! I binged it all in under two weeks I loved it so much, and I'm even watching the pre-prequel Endeavour (which I do like, but it's different vibes from Lewis and I def like Lewis better). Now I'm beta-ing a whole-ass series of fics she's doing for the lewis/hathaway ship and I'm absolutely loving every single word. God some people just have gold in the brain.

The last highlight of the month is definitely the latest fic I did for the [community profile] bethefirst challenge! I wrote a Vaughn-centric fic for the Time For Chaos podcast (the one that introduced me to call of cthulhu, which I keep gushing about to anyone who'll listen) and honestly it was such a blast. I actually intended for it to go a vastly different way but the start wasn't working out so I re-wrote it in a completely different scenario and suddenly it all clicked. Needless to say, I'm already writing another fic for the fandom (because I need more Carter/Margot bickering in my life), and I'm waiting for season 2 to end (5 episodes left as of writing this oh god) so I can go back to re-listen and write even more. I know I will be the only person writing (and reading) for this fandom but I don't care, I do it because I love: therefore I must. Be the change you want to be in the world and all that.

Anyway hopefully next check-in comes at the end of may and not 3 months later... ㄟ(≧◇≦)ㄏ

After running my friends through a couple of cobbled-together Call of Cthulhu adventures the one thing I've learnt is that I don't even have to worry about planting red herrings or trying not to make them too obvious, because players will make their own red herrings and run towards them at full speed.

Spoilers for "The Haunting" scenario in the quick start rules, I suppose.

Minor Spoilers for The Haunting )

This is not the first time my players draw the wrong conclusion about something, and honestly most of the time I can track their exact methods of thinking and usually it's pretty reasonable from their standpoint. I guess things always seem more obvious from the other side of the Keeper screen, but I have to remember that what may seem obvious to me may not be as clear to them, even when it feels like I'm spoon-feeding them obvious clues.

I guess what I'm trying to balance now that I'm introducing an overarching narrative is the struggle between giving them enough of a puzzle but not so much that they become frustrated. I already introduced them to most of the major players involved in the cult they're going to be working against, but they decided to focus their suspicions on the one guy who isn't actually involved! In their defence, I made him super shady on purpose because he is corrupt, just not in the "making a pact with an eldritch god" kind of way, the dude just likes money. I'm going to be looking into how I can incorporate more obvious clues as to who they have to be on guard against that isn't them just finding the bad guy's diary saying "ah yes, me and all my accomplices, X, Y and Z are going to be doing evil shit soon" lmao.

All that being said, honestly sometimes my player's totally out of pocket ideas create some really good moments that end up turning way better than what I had planned. I'm already pretty much an improviser as it is, but being able to riff off their spur of the moment thoughts has created the basis of a story I probably wouldn't have been able to think of on my own! It does make it a little hard for me to keep track of all the shit I'm making up on the fly but honestly that's part of the fun haha.

Anyway now I'm just hoping my more insane player deciphers the spell in the Liber Ivonis and tries summoning Nyarlathotep or something xdd. I keep trying to give them fun (read: deadly) spells to play with but the other two more rational investigators keep taking them from him because they're "concerned about their wellbeing" or "worried he'll do something dangerous" smh. I already decided that Nyarl is going to try to get him to sign The Book of Azathoth at some point but I would super love if they walked in on that of their own volition. I also have a super fun revelation planned for my socialite investigator involving her fiancé's family, and I'm still hammering out my police investigator's backstory and how it ties in to the main plot (they gave me both a dead brother and a missing mother to play with so the possibilities are endless). I already sort of hinted that the brother was killed by the cult so now it's just a matter of figuring out why exactly.

At least now I know I don't have to worry about creating diversions because the players have that more than covered on their own haha.

January over, didn't get much done because... well I just didn't lol.

Now I don't really like counting WIPs into the Words Written category because they change so much and it messes up with how I do this word count (which is usually just checking my published works on AO3 lmao) but in this case I had to include the roughly 7k words for the piece I'm working on for [community profile] smallfandombang because if I didn't I would be really short of my monthly goal and that's just no way to start the year lmao. Everything I wrote this year was for the same fandom (spoiler alert for my sfb piece I guess) so it was kind of nice and I got really in the mood for it ehehe.

As for translations, I kept my promise of one chapter, which, when you think about it was more like two because the singular chapter was like 4k words as opposed to the usual 2k, so I'm being good about my goals uwu.

I also did a real quick tl of a lovely sherlock fic to spanish to fill out a wishlist in [community profile] snowflake_challenge and it was a lot of fun! I should do more spanish TLs of fic lol.

I decided to make this post about Call of Cthulhu resources since I am compiling them for myself anyway! This resource post is meant mostly for Keepers (Game Masters), but Investigators (Players) can definitely find useful things here as well.

That's all I can think of at the moment but I'll definitely add more if/when I discover more.

Search in your current space, whether brick-and-mortar or digital. Post a picture (a link to a picture will be fine!) or description of something that is or represents:

1. Something your favorite character would like: I don't have 'a' favourite character but I keep a lot of sweets at my desk so someone is bound to like one of them I guess...
2. Something that makes you laugh: The cat!

3. A fandom place you would like to visit: Not to be a weeb but I want to go to japan lmao. Not to live tho, just to visit like the touristy spots, see Mt. Fuji, some tori gates, go to Tokyo, the usual. I also want to go to Taiwan but that's less from the dramas I've watched and more because I just want to visit the country it seems nice.
4. A fandom creator (pro or not) you'd like to meet: I don't necessarily want to meet any creators but I'd love a chance to rummage through some of their brains. Like, I wanna see what they keep in their brain-drawers.
5. Something you find comforting: A warm mug of berry tea with honey and lemon.
6. Something from a favorite TV series or movie from your childhood: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
7. A piece of clothing you love: A bright mustard-yellow hoodie with a red chinese dragon on the back and the words "Fresh Vibes Dragon" in a stereotypical Wonton Font. I got it ironically and I only ever wear it as pjs but it is genuinely so comfy lmao.
8. A book or song with a color in the title: Baby Blue by Tigers In The Sky
9. Something only someone in your fandom would understand: Osmanthus wine tastes the same as I remember...

About me: I am mostly a lurker, but I have been trying to be more active in convos and stuff, and I love making friends! I have been in fandom since I had unfettered access to the internet (so like, 2012?) and, while I don't consider myself a veteran, I have been around for a little while :)

Nowadays I'm mostly into videogames and anime/manga fandoms since I don't watch TV that much, with the exception of c-dramas because I keep convincing myself it's "good listening practice" yeah, sure (the subtitles dare to disagree). I'm also super into audiodramas (especially the horror variety) and actual play podcasts (disclaimer i have not listened to critical role past like the fourth? episode and probably never will). You can find a more extensive list of fandoms in the collapsible box here.

I can't think of what else to write so here are five randomly generated questions:

What situation is sure to make you cry? Any movie with a dog dying. I'm not much of a movie crier but dogs dying will make me bawl like a child lmao.

What is your favorite spice? Tajin chili powder. I put that shit on fruit and it is top tier. Also on corn, with mayo or butter. Yum yum.

What's your opinion on naps? All societies should embrace the mid-afternoon siesta.

How much damage could your best friend do to you if you ever had a falling out? None, I don't make friends with the kind of people who would retaliate after a falling out :) Although I guess the question's emphasis is on the could rather than would, but then that answer is still not much. My sibling, on the other hand... well, let's just say it would be mutually assured destruction.

What is the next big purchase you're currently saving for? A laptop. I fucked up the battery on this one by leaving it plugged in during the pandemic and now it doesn't hold a charge for more than five minutes. I've also noticed the faintest amount of warping on the keyboard part just above the battery so I know the battery is definitely mega screwed. I'm saving up for like a nice gaming laptop or something because I do like my PC games lol, but I don't want to get an actual desktop right now because I also value portability and I do not have the space for that kind of machine atm, but it is on my list of things to get once I'm more settled down or whatever.
