what I've peeped
May. 25th, 2023 21:01I have not updated the window situation in a while, it is as such:
The caterpillars started spinning their cocoons on the second week of April, and for a few weeks the backyard was completely covered in them. Their numbers have been drastically reduced since due to weather and human activity (by which I mean the other inhabitants of the house not appreciating the circle of life and all that) but our of the two who spun a home outside my window, one still remains untouched. The other perished from, what I can only assume, was natural failure to thrive. It took much longer than it's siblings to spin it's cocoon and when it did it ended up visibly wonky. Anyway no moths have emerged as of yet, but I will continue to keep an eye out. As an aside, one caterpillar got inside the house (no idea how) and started spinning it's cocoon on the same day it's siblings did (I can only assume it was on the same day since I saw it and the window caterpillars spinning, but I didn't catch the others in the act) and I neglected to mention it to anyone else to see how long it would remain unnoticed. It was done with its cocoon in less than 12 hours and remained up on that door frame for about a month before it's presence was discovered. RIP sneaky, so close, yet so far.
The cardinals are also back! I keep seeing one that's either a juvenile or a female (probably a female? Though it looked thin and slightly smaller than the male so idk) hanging out with a male to pick bugs off he grass, and the male comes by himself to hang out near the fence.
Other than that, there's squirrels as always and a sparrow here and there. I found a slug out in the porch but it died :( such is life I suppose
