social media struggles

elidelioSo reddit is trying to kill 3rd party apps... ugh. I've literally never used the official reddit app, I barely even use the website, all my browsing is done through a 3rd party app on my phone, first Relay, then Sync, they just work so well for me. The official website gets glitchy after I've scrolled for too long— and yeah, I could always use old.reddit but I'm going to be perfectly honest here, I don't like that interface and I actually didn't mind the look of the update. If reddit goes and actually does do the thing to the API... I probably just won't use it that much anymore? Which is sad, because there are genuinely some great communities on there and it's been my primary form of social media since like... 2017? Sheesh, it's been a while. No other social media can quite compare, though, or maybe I'm just not familiar enough with them. Time to give them a go again, I suppose.
I have been trying to stay off tumblr because my entire dash is filled with TOK fanarts and I'm trying to avoid spoilers T.T I might just give in and either stop caring or mute TOK for a bit, tho. Twitter is still a shitshow but I get on every once in a while to look at fanart. Instagram is mostly for sharing memes with my sib, but I could see myself using it more. I have not touched facebook in a decade and I refuse to do so. Weibo is weird to navigate. I have a tiktok but since I can always watch the good tiktoks on other platforms I haven't actually used it enough for the algorithm to work its magic or whatever, I also don't have the app on my phone and the web version is meh. At this point, aside from reddit, dreamwidth is the place I spend most of my idle time on. That and the novel updates forum, lmao. Oh and obviously youtube is always open, but that's like... background noise for when I'm doing other things... (i know, i know).
In summary, I hope reddit doesn't shoot itself in the foot like that, but if it does... it was good while it lasted.
