This is another one of those grammar rules that I always just sort of glossed over until I actually looked it up, then everything clicked.
Subj. + Verb + 下去

The -xiàqù complement is used for an action that is continuing/carrying on.

下去Keep talking.
這本書你一定要認真地看下去You must carefully keep reading this book.

It can also be used in the negative:
Subj. + Verb + 不 + 下去 (+ 了)
For something that can't keep continuing.

這會兒都看下去了。Can't continue watching at this moment.
這個故事太無聊了,我聼下去了。This story is too boring, I can't keep listening.

When used with 再, it turns into a repeated continuation:

下去就醉了。You'll get drunk if you keep on drinking. (If you keep on continuing to drink, you'll get drunk.)

I got a little lazy with the examples there (just copy-pasted from here lol) but this is just one of those things that is pretty straightforward once you see the rule actually in place.
If you don't have an account you can create one now.
HTML doesn't work in the subject.
