Summary: Caspar is finally doing his homework, but doesn’t stay focused for long.

The Garreg Mach Monastery can be considered the centre of Fódlan in every sense of the word.

Firstly, it is located in the geographical heart of the country, bordering all three nations and providing a neutral core where asylum seekers can find refuge. Secondly, it is widely regarded as the spiritual centre of the nation, housing the Church of Seiros and the beloved Archbishop. And finally, the Officer's Academy housed within its walls is the gathering point for the young people who will one day be in charge of the future of Fódlan.

The Monastery’s architecture is no less impressive than its wide range of influence. The Garreg Mach Cathedral stands tall with it's towering spires and imposing buttresses

“What's a buttress?” Caspar looked up from the assignment.

“A type of vertical support for a building.” Linhardt barely glanced away from his book.

Caspar let out a laugh, “Why is it called that?”

“Dunno.”

“Come on,” Caspar fully turned to face his dismissive friend, the assignment all but forgotten, “You must know something, you read so many books.”

“I only read books about things I find interesting.” Linhardt flatly stated.

“So architecture isn’t up your alley?”

“Not quite. No.”

“Shame.” Caspar turned pensive, falling into a contemplative silence.

After a while, just as the dorm room returned to relative state of tranquillity, Caspar spoke up again.

“So do butts come from buttresses?”

“What?” The question caught Linhardt so off-guard he actually looked up from his book to stare at Caspar straight on.

“Like, are they called butts ‘cause they’re supports for the body? Or are the building butts called that because of the people butts.”

“Caspar, what in the goddess’ name are you talking about?” Linhardt gave a slightly exasperated sigh, “Do you want help with your homework or not? You’re going to be in trouble with the Professor if you don’t turn this one in on time.”

“No! Please! I’ll go focus now! You said you’d help me. You have to help me.” With that, Caspar turned his attention back to the assignment, stealing occasional furtive glances back at Linhardt whenever he needed assistance.

Unfortunately, the butt of his original question remained unanswered.
